Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has asked Barcelona to sign one of Real Madrid’s hottest targets soon as they plan for life after him.

Barcelona are having to gradually prepare for life after Lionel Messi. The Spanish champions’ inarguably greatest player is nearing the twilight of his career and it is imminent that Barcelona would struggle for a few years without him. However, should they manage to replace him with a player of nearly the same calibre, they may not notice much of the transition.

As a result, Barcelona’s board wants the club’s all-time top goal scorer himself to come up with a name that can replace the Argentina international. Lionel Messi has apparently suggested that Josep Maria Bartomeu signs Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe as his replacement and Barcelona find the prospect attractive for the summer of 2021, according to Diario GOL.

The France international has already banged in over 100 goals in his career at the ripe age of 20 and is the epitome of a lethal scorer, but Barcelona’s big issue is that Real Madrid want to sign him and are willing to offer much more transfer money than they are. Los Blancos’ president Florentino Perez has also publicly talked of his interest in signing the Frenchman from PSG.

Moreover, the Whites believe that Zinedine Zidane’s potential influence could bend the balance in their favour, but Lionel Messi would be no less bait from Barcelona’s side either. Having said that, both the clubs will mostly go heads on for his signing only during 2021, in his last year of the Paris Saint-Germain contract, because right now the French champions won’t sell for under 300 million euros.

Barcelona meanwhile have also started to build a team around the future and are looking to convince Kylian Mbappe into joining them courtesy of the young players like Arthur Melo, Frenkie De Jong and several others who will arrive at the club. Additionally, he will get a chance to be Lionel Messi’s heir at Barcelona and there could be no bigger privilege for a player at 22 in his career.
