Messi, De Jong & De Ligt all together: Take a look at Barcelona scary squad next season

Image
Finding the new Lionel Messi may prove impossible but the Blaugrana already look to have snapped up replacements for Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique
At the end of Willem II's Eredivisie loss to Ajax earlier this month, Pol Llonch asked Matthijs de Ligt if the defender would be joining Barcelona at the end of the season.

According to the midfielder, the teenage centre-half replied, "I hope so."

The rest of Europe will be hoping De Ligt does not end up at Camp Nou, though, as the idea of Barcelona being bolstered by not one but two Ajax stars is positively terrifying for all of their opponents.

The Blaugrana, of course, have already snapped up Frenkie de Jong for €75 million (£65m/$84m), with club president Josep Maria Bartomeu admitting that they had been forced to move fast in order to secure the services of one of the most promising and versatile young midfielders in Europe.

"We wanted to do the signing of De Jong in the summer, but there was a lot of pressure,&q…

Messi decision made by Ernesto Valverde is the worst news for Liverpool

LIVERPOOL will need to find a way to stop a fresh Lionel Messi when they come up against Barcelona in the Champions League this week.

The two European heavyweights will go head-to-head at the Nou Camp on Wednesday in the first leg of their semi-final clash.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are looking to reach the final for the second year running and avenge last season’s defeat to Real Madrid.

But they’ll be wary of Messi, who boasts an outstanding record against English clubs and punished Manchester United in the quarter-finals.

The Argentine is targeting his fifth Champions League title and, unfortunately for Liverpool, he’ll be raring to go.

Messi scored the winning goal against Levante on Saturday to clinch the La Liga title for Barca.

But the 31-year-old only played 45 minutes, coming on as a second-half substitute.

In fact, Messi has barely featured this month as Ernesto Valverde aims to keep him fresh for the Champions League.

This comes amid news that:

Messi was rested for Barca’s draw w…

Suarez to miss remaining fixtures through injury

Arsenal midfielder Denis Suarez has announced he will not play again this season due to a groin injury.

Suarez, 25, has made just six substitute appearances for the Gunners in all competitions since arriving on loan in January from Barcelona until the end of the season.

“I want you all to know that I will not be able to play again this season,” Suarez said on Twitter.

“Some issues with my groin have made things tough since the game against BATE in the Europa League, now they have forced me to stop training altogether.

“After various medical consultations, the conclusion has been reached that I cannot keep on pushing it and I have started a period of treatment that cannot be done alongside competitive football.”

Suarez’s last appearance for Arsenal was in their 2-0 home win against Manchester United in March.

His contract with Barcelona runs until 2021, but the Gunners have an option to buy the Spaniard this summer.

“I’m sorry that all the effort and sacrifice that was made to come to…

FC Barcelona announce squad for La Liga match against Levante

Image
The next Barcelona match is upon us! The Blaugrana welcome Levante to Camp Nou for the game that could clinch La Liga, and Ernesto Valverde has called up 22 players for Saturday’s matchup:

Goalkeepers: 1. Marc-André ter Stegen, 13. Jasper Cillessen

Defenders: 2. Nélson Semedo, 3. Gerard Piqué, 6. Jean-Clair Todibo, 15. Clément Lenglet, 17. Jeison Murillo, 18. Jordi Alba, 23. Samuel Umtiti, 24. Thomas Vermaelen

Midfielders: 4. Ivan Rakitic, 5. Sergio Busquets, 7. Philippe Coutinho, 8. Arthur, 20. Sergi Roberto, 21. Carles Aleñá, 22. Arturo Vidal

Forwards: 9. Luis Suárez, 10. Lionel Messi, 11. Ousmane Dembélé, 14. Malcom, 19. Kevin-Prince Boateng

It is interesting that Valverde has picked all of his available players for the game since only 18 can be uniform. There might be a reason for that: if Atlético Madrid lose to Valladolid, Barça will be champions without playing, and if that scenario happens Valverde will be free to rest four key players for the Liverpool game without any repercuss…

Luis Suarez has a message for Liverpool fans

Luis Suarez has warned Liverpool supporters he WILL celebrate against them if he scores on Wednesday.

Barcelona welcome the Reds to Camp Nou in the Champions League semi-final, with Suarez set to start against his former club.

Suarez missed out on the Premier League title in 2014 during his time at Anfield, before a securing a £75million to Catalonia.

And even though he has fond memories of his time on Merseyside, the 32-year-old has promised to display the same ruthless nature which made him a hero in Liverpool.

He told the Daily Mail: “In the build up to the game it’s nice to talk about how massively grateful I am to Liverpool for all they gave me but, you know me, once I’m on the pitch there will be no friendships, no companions, no thought for all the lovely moments,’ he says.

“I’ll defend the colours of Barcelona with all the pride in the world.”

Barcelona 'confident of signing Manchester United's superstar'

Barcelona have reportedly maintained their interest in pushing through a deal for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

The England international has progressed through the youth setup to establish himself as a key man at Old Trafford, but the attacker's future at the club remains in doubt.

Negotiations regarding a new contract continue to take place but according to The Sun, Barcelona are ready to take advantage of any breakdown in talks.

Rashford is effectively tied to United until the end of the 2020-21 campaign, but the Premier League giants are unlikely to take any risks when it comes to the player being in a position to leave on a free transfer.

Barcelona are allegedly prepared to pay in the region of £100m as they attempt to secure a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez.

The 21-year-old has scored 13 times from 44 appearances in all competitions this season.

Four Barcelona players at risk of leaving this summer, including €20m-rated misfit

Barcelona are on course for a highly successful season this year as they remain in the hunt for a treble with the La Liga title, Champions League and Copa del Rey still up for grabs.

Coach Ernesto Valverde will hope to build on their domestic domination from last year, but they’ll face a tough semi-final tie against Liverpool if they are to advance to the final of Europe’s premier competition.

Nevertheless, they’ve continued to enjoy success with a trusted and experienced group of players, with many fringe players arguably looking at exits in order to secure regular playing time.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are already planning ahead of the summer and will look offload players currently out on loan to both create space in the squad for new arrivals and to raise funds to sign any potential targets.

It’s noted that Marc Cucurella, Andre Gomes, Denis Suarez and Sergi Palencia could all be on their way out, while Arda Turan and Douglas Pereira are two other names touted as po…
